Hard Drive Case EDC Kit

EDC pouch kit

15 months ago, I wrote about my every-day carry kit. Since then, I’ve changed the case I carry to a Hootek Hard Drive Case. This opens flat and is small enough that it fits comfortably in the pocket of my jeans. I had been using a belt pouch, but its size became annoying. The Hootek is 4.6″ long x 2.7″ wide and 1.33″ thick. That thickness makes it slightly bulky in the front pocket of my jeans, but it’s the slimmest case like it I’ve found.

I’ve swapped the ordinary screwdriver bits for a 711L mini-driver and Steinwhale stubby driver double-ended bits. These come in a neat carrier with an extension that also fits nicely in my case. Together with these is a mini-Sharpie and a couple of Leman’s mints, which originated in my little home town. (I’ll probably swap the mints with a mini lighter and/or compressed towelette.)

I’ve also added an Olitans folding scalpel to the mix; this is so slim I can use it like an X-acto blade (they even have X-acto-type blades to fit it), and a changeable blade means it can always be razor-sharp. This is packed together with a bundle of OTC pills and a cut-down ballpoint pen.

In a little tin is a USB card reader and a 120 GB flash drive, along with a drill driver bit and a couple of screws. Behind the tin is a couple of band-aids and my house key (I normally enter thru the garage).

I still love the Olight Baton 4, the Victorinox Rambler, and Sencut Crowley knife and use them all nearly every day. I wish I could carry a tape measure and charging cables with me everywhere, but it’s not practical. Maybe someday Olight will invent a flashlight that includes a laser measurer.

When it comes to real tools as well as charging cables and whatnot, I have that stuff in the backpack I keep in my car.
