Playground: The Wishing Tree

In a clearing in the woods next to the town of Colvy on the banks of the Little Whorl is a tree bent full sideways and entirely covered with coins. Each coin is hammered into a crack or slot in the tree and bent over to make it hard to remove. It’s said that anyone who hammers a coin into the tree can make a little wish to the nature spirit who rules the place and, if it’s in the spirit’s power, it shall be granted.

Now, if anyone removes your coin while you still live, your wish will be undone and worse: that person will be set with a curse (a major wild magic effect). (Make a d20 check against difficulty 18 to see if the person is still alive.)

Not far away from the Wishing Tree is the Colvy Steps, an ancient clapper bridge of large, flat stones across the Little Whorl. The nature spirit here, called Master Greenface by some, usually appears as a man in the distance with a green face who, when pleased with visitors, leaves small items–trinkets lost by other visitors or clues to some problem it has insight into.
